Investment Philosophy

QBV draws on the team’s depth of technical knowledge and market experience in the biotechnology industry to identify companies with the strongest value propositions, in terms of developing their technology into valuable products.

Criteria for investing

QBV’s investee companies must demonstrate:

  • soundly based science
  • strong intellectual property
  • a viable business plan
  • suitably experienced management
  • multiple exit scenarios that generate returns commensurate with risk level.

Investments in the biotechnology industry are inherently high risk, with more than 80 per cent of drugs failing clinical trials. It is anticipated that several of QBV’s investee companies will fail, but high returns from successful investees should generate a fund return.

QBV values its portfolio of companies each year in accordance with the Australian Private Equity and Venture Capital Association (AVCAL) guidelines, and will determine its total return when the last investment is sold at the end of the fund’s life.
